In theory class entire batch is divided into at least four to five small batches. Topic for the small group class is announced well in advance and actually written on the notice board of department for the student information before at least three days. So student can actually prepare the topic .All the faculties involved in teaching met on the same day of class decide what should be taught among themselves keeping in mind the following terminologies.
The learners are usually actively involved and if they find any difficulty in understanding the topic they can have the active discussion with teacher.
Integrated Teaching
Our department is one of the first department to carry out integrated teaching sessions for 2nd MBBS students on Epilepsy and Tuberculosis. Nine departments from preclinical, paraclinical and clinical fields have taken part in these sessions.
Problem Based Learning (PBL)
In practical class our department has started problem based learning (PBL) where students use triggers from problem case so that they can define their own learning objectives.
Adverse Drug Reactions
Students are taught to identify adverse drug reaction in theory and practical classes. Clues are given for identification in form of photographs and in form of signs and symptoms of a case.
Formulations
Dosage formulations are taught in practical classes. Students are shown various drug formulation samples for identification and uses of each formulation in different scenarios.
Clinical
This department is pioneer in removing practical classes in relation to dispensing pharmacy in entire state since 1994. Clinical training is given during practical classes. Students are given step by step direction for injection filling and Drip setting. Various Methods of injection (i.e. Intravenous, Intramuscular etc.) are taught. Real life scenarios are given for prescription writing and Criticism of prescription.
Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE)
Objective structured practical examination is carried out for injection filling and Drip setting exercise during practical training and formative assesement.
