Surat: Thursday: 200 years ago E. S. On this day in 1920, the world's most famous nurse Florence Nightingale was born into the British family. He is considered the pioneers of modern nursing. Every year on date. On May 12th, Florence Nightingale's birth anniversary is celebrated as International Nurses Day. A nurse has as much contribution as a doctor has in healing and rejuvenating a patient. Nurses Day is dedicated to the invaluable contribution of nursing personnel. Such a dedicated nurse is Nikitaben Patel on duty in new civil hospital. Nikitaben is providing mother's love to newborn babies admitted in NICU pediatric ward along with nursing duty. Nikitaben, a nurse of Sari Bujrang village of Gandevi taluka of Navsari district, has been serving patients in various wards with doctors since last 5 years in various wards, has been performing duty since last 2 years in NICU Pediatric ward. I started nursing in the health sector by doing GNM (General Nursing & Midwifery) nursing course from Dahod Nursing College, Nikitaben Patel said. Currently during ward duty in NICU, intimacy has been tied with newborn children. I also became a mother 3 months ago, so I have also experienced mother-child connection and emotional stretching. That is why motherhood love has been tied with children admitted in NICU. So where children are recovered and discharged, we do continuously monitoring and treatment-service with care. Children enrolled in the NICU require a special kind of high-level care, and special training is required. When the child's mother is not with the newborn children, then we are the ones who take care of the mother of these children. It's very sad to hear women not getting milk for feeding after becoming mothers, they say. Because mother's milk is like nectar for a born child. That is why I have been donating milk for the last two months in the Milk Bank of Surat Civil Hospital's Comprehensive Lactation Management and Research Center. Just like my baby needs mother's milk, so many needy, motherless children get nourished with our milk donation. In addition, Nikitaben said, we take care of every small thing including milk, cleaning, antibiotics, playing the role of the mother of children in the NICU ward. Because, only a mother can understand her child's pain-sensions. Doing 'Kangaroo Mothercare (KMC) therapy' to children born with light weight. Just as a kangaroo holds its baby in a sack, in the same way hugging a newborn baby to the mother's chest brings warmth along with appropriate physical and mental development. In which children are treated by touching the hug of the baby's mother or female members of the family to increase the baby's weight. The NICU pediatric ward has become my second home, they say it in absence. Noted that, more than 2500 nurse sisters from South Gujarat's first government nursing college-Surat are providing special service in health sector across the country by studying nursing in the last 5 years. In the state, 30 colleges of ANM, 23 colleges of GNM, 3 colleges of NPM, one colleges of NPCC are working together. The state government is providing the facilities of living and study to merit based selected students interested in making a career in nursing.
