- PAPER I

General Pharmacology :

Introduction, Definition, scope and historic development of the subject, basic understanding about understanding about methods of administration of drugs, their dosage forms, principles and applied aspects of absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of drugs, clinical pharmacokinetics and therapeutic monitoring, mechanism of drug action, factors modifying the drug action, adverse drug reactions & drug interactions. Principles of assays, bioassays. Radioimmunoassay, enzyme linked immune assay. Development of new drug, basic principles of clinical trial.

Drugs and autonomic nervous system:

Neurohumoral transmission, Cholinergic system and related drugs, Anticholinergic drugs, Sympathetic system and related drugs, Drugs affecting adrenergic system, Drugs and ganglionic transmission,Drugs& neuromuscular junction.

Drugs &Autocoids:

Histamine, serotonin,bradykinin, rennin angiotensin system, prostaglandins, leucotrienes, platelet activating factor and drug affecting autocoids/ and autocoids actions.

Cardiovascular system:

Drugs for IHD(angina, infarction) & principles of therapy of IHD. Drugs for hypertension, cardiac failure and principles of therapy of hypertension, cardiac failure. Basic understanding about anti-arrhythmic drugs and therapy of arrhythmia. Drugs for pheripheral vascular collapse(shock) & principles of therapy of shock. Drugs affecting serum lipoprotein profile.

Drugs affecting blood formation:

Haematinics and principles of therapy of anaemia. Drugs affecting process of coagulation, bleeding and thrombosis.

Drugs and respiratory system:

Drugs in bronchial asthma and principles of therapy of bronchial asthma. Drugs in cough and principles of therapy of cough. Principles of therapy of pulmonary edema. Therapeutic gases.

Drugs and Gastrointestinal tract:

Acid peptic disease & drugs, carminatives, appetizers, appetite suppressants, emetics, antiemetics, drugs useful in treating constipation &diarrohea.

Drugs and kidney:

General consideration about interrelation of drugs and kidney, Diuretics and antidiuretics.

PAPER II

Drugs acting on Central Nervous System:

Neurohumoral transmission in CNS, General Anaesthetic agents, Sedatives & Hypnotics including alcohol, Centrally acting muscle relaxants, Antiepileptic and Anticonvulsant drugs, Antiparkinsonian drugs, Narcotic analgesics and antagonists, Psychopharmacological agents, Antipsychotics, Antidepressants, Antimaniac agents, Hallucinogens, CNS stimulants and drugs affecting cognition, Principles of Deaddiction programme, Drugs producing Local anaesthesia and their therapeutic applications.

Anti-inflammatory drugs:

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, gout, migraine Steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Endocrinology:

General considerations and anterior pituitary hormones, Thyroid hormone and anti thyroid drugs, Insulin, other antidiabetic drugs and therapy of diabetes mellitus, Glucagon. Drugs and hormones affecting calcium metabolism, corticosteroids, Sex hormones and related drugs.

Drugs acting on uterus, Drugs and pregnancy

Chemotherapy:

General considerations, Individual groups of anti-infective agents, betalactam antibiotics, Aminoglycoside antibiotics, Macrolide antibiotics, Macrolide antibiotics, Broad spectrum antibiotics, Sulphonamides, Fluoroquinolones and other miscellaneous anti-infectives, Concept of disfection and antisepsis. Therapy of specific infections like tuberculosis, malaria, amoebiasis, other protozoal infections, helmenthiasis, urinary tract infections, STDs, Respiratory tract infections, fungal diseases, ecto- parasitic skin infestation, viral infection, principles of cancer chemotherapy.

Miscellaneous drugs:

Sera and vaccines, immunosuppressants, gene therapy, vitamins, principles of treatment of poisoning.
