On 29th Nov Gmc Surat in collabration with IMA,SMCA,FPA,RSR,Samarpan NGO,World Record Foundation organised a Blood donation camp betn 10.00am to 5.00pm at New Civil hospital Surat coordinated by Dr Amrish Pandya,Dr Mayur jarag & Dr Parul Vadgama, where total 51 units were collected at Blood bank NCHS which is an accredited blood bank NABH .Many faculties and students attended the same.

Bedaquiline Treatment started in the first patient Manish bhai rafalia for X- DR TB patients at J 4 PMDT ward under the care of Respiratory Medicine Dept on 24.11.17 .

Successfully organised and completed 1st Revised Basic workshop in Medical Education Technologies from 21st to 23rd Nov by Medical education unit, under MCI observer. It was an effective workshop with enthusiastic Resource faculty and energetic participants.

Government Medical College –Surat in association with Parenting for Peace and School Mental Health task force of IPS have organized a seminar for the first year and second year MBBS student on Suicide prevention.Approximately 300 students and Dean, all head of the department,medical faculties were present in the session.The program is named – YOLO ( You Only Live Once )The program started by the welcome address by Dean Dr jayesh Brahmbhatt who addressed the gathering about the importance of the stress management and how to identify and treat a person with suicidal tendency The team of Doctors from the Parenting for Peace was there for the presentation which included Dr Aarti Mehta , Dr Latika Shah,Dr Prashant Kariya, Dr Salim Hirani,, Dr Kamlesh Parekh and Dr Trupti Patel.

Inaugural function of ‘ World COPD Day’ Celebrations at GMCS & NCHS on 15-11-2017!

Department of ophthalmology & NCD clinic staff celebrated world diabetic day ina unique way.About 125 diabetic patients visiting New Civil Hospital OPD were explained the importance of retinal examination on time to prevent occurrence of blindness due to diabetic Ratinopathy , a leading cause of preventable blindness.About 118 patients were examined thro’ handheld fundus camera in normal pupil. The examination took a minute and all pictures saved in computer. They identified different stages of Retinopathy in 10 pts. One patient had tractional retinal detachment.Most of the patients will be treated with laser.A good example of “Helping patients by quick screening “ It achieved a satisfaction in both health professional & patients.

Positive work environment and support is required for persons with mental health issues. How to create such a working environment is our collective responsibility.

Today on " world sight day" Department of Ophthalmology took initiative to start examining the Anganwadi children of Surat city for eye check up.This year once again the focus of NPCB is on childhood blindness.Our resdent dictors and interns with the help of ICDS Mr Harishbhai Sondharwa could start the good work of examining Anganwadi children who otherwise donot approach hospitals for ocular morbidities. Hon.Ambassador of Nepal shri H.E. Deep Kumar Upadhyay visited Hemophilia Day Care Centre at NCH SURAT on 24th July, 2017

A workshop was organized by Divyajyoti trust , Mandvi for a project " Diabetic retinopathy" for physicians and ophthalmologists to sensitize them for importance of early diagnosis and treatment of retinopathy on 21/07/2017.

The session was started with encouraging words of Dean Dr Brahmbhatt and Medical Superintendent Dr M K vadel.

Dept. of Ophthalmology is one of the centres equipped with Fundus Fl. Angiography, OCT, Vitrectomy machine and Laser machine for treatment of sufferers.

All participants were taught about basic retinopathy pathology , stages and importance of timely referrals to ophthalmologists so that the process of blindness is withhold or becomes slow and least progressive by Dr Priti Kapafia , Professor and head ,Ophthalmology. Dr Udaybhai Gajiwala talked in detail about project objectives and methodology . He also talked about how to train para medical , medical and grassroot level staff in CHC s and Medical college. Diabetologist Dr. Pavan explained updates in treatment of diabetes. Dr Kalyani a retinal surgeon talked in detail about modalities of treatment of retinopathy. There was a open house discussion where need for one fundus camera in medical opd to photograph undilated pictures of all diabetics was highlighted. The trust authorities promised to make efforts for getting one through project. A thanks note by Dr Trupti Solu marked the end of session

Conducted Stress Management lecture for third year MBBS students in which briefly discussed many areas like Time Management, handling relationship issues, study skills, assertiveness and role of Yoga and meditation.

A CME was organized on 2nd Feb 2017 by Government Medical College and New Civil Hospital & Department of Pediatrics Government Medical College Surat. Academy of paediatrics-Gujarat and Surat Pediatric Association Charitable trust also participated. Topic was: Prevention & Treatment of malnutrition through “Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre” a novel approach. CME started with blessings by Dean Dr. Brahmbhatt & other dignitaries. We have one international faculty, a very senior pediatrician Dr. Abel Albino from Argentina. Who was nominated for Nobel Prize for “World Peace” in the year 2012. He is the founder & chairman of “CONIN” foundation which is NGO working for infant nutrition & have about 85 centers. He is an extraordinary honorary professor at Catholic University of Argentina ,San Luis,Argentina, University of Mendoza Argentina and open Interamerican University, Rosario, Argentina. He also received award “Mother Teresa of Calcutta” in Solidarity. We also had 3 local faculties Dr. Vijay Shah Professor & Head, Pediatric Department Dr. Pinakini Solanki, Assistant Professor in Dept. of Pediatrics & Geeta B. Chandani Regional Project Associate, Surat. It was a very interesting,lucid presentation by Dr. Abel Albino for prevention of Malnutrition. All the local speakers’ spoke about Current Policies of Government & how they deal with Malnourished Children & few success stories.CME was attended by 207 delegates comprises of Professors, Faculty members, Practicing pediatricians, Post Graduate Students, Under Graduate Students & Nursing Students. Everybody appreciated & went back home with lots of positive energy & knowledge regarding Prevention & taking care of a Malnourished Children.

The program was designed, compered and co ordinated by Dr. PritiKapadiaGupta, Professor and head , Ophthalmology.

After a formal general welcome to all students and parents, a floral welcome to authorities of the hospital and Alumni Association representatives was done.

Mellifluous rendition of prayer by Students of IIIrd year MBBS invoked the blessings of God. This was followed by lighting of lamps and saraswativandana

The wardens , Dr. Godara Sir and DrDharitri Parmar gave their introduction and related messages to boys and girls, assured them a safe and proper hostel accommodation.

General Secretary Mr. yash and Cultural Secretary Ms. Aishwarya spoke to the freshers and showed their enthusiasm in being their for juniors’ each and every mile stone in the college and offered to help whenever need arises.

Dr. Mahendra Chaudhary, President, Alumni Association, GMC, Surat spoke regarding Alumni Association activities and future programs, He also declared donation of Rs. 2 lakhs for making landscapes and gardens near students’ hostel area. Their association declared gifting aprons to all students of batch 2015.

Dr. Mahendra Chauhan , Faculty Dean , said that that he wish to have a NO PROBLEM atmosphere for new students in relation to learning, teaching, curriculum and assessment problems at college and university level. He also declared that VNSGU will select PG registrations on students All india PG examinations results where transparency will be maintained all the time.

Dean Dr Dixit, gave a detailed over view of college , and insisted on regular attendance, hard work for formative as well as summative assessments through out for four and half years. He also mentioned about new hospital facilities , upcoming renovations , and advanced superspecialities to be developed in future in the campus. He praised the arrangements made by senior students of our college for the welcome program.

Distribution of aprons ( white coat ceremony) was a trend setter event, where topper students, that is first 6 admissions of Govt. Medical Surat were called upon and given aprons by signatories.

Mr. Prajapti, Incharge Student section explained about few formalities related to the bond and to the official documents necessary for the admission.

Civil hospital surat, Department of pediatrics Government Medical College surat and Surat pediatric association charitable trust is celebrating "ORS Week" from 29th july to 31st of july, "teenage day" on 1st of august and "World breast feeding Week" from 2nd august to 7th august.

This is the inaugural function of awareness stall for same. Dr Mahesh Vadel (superintendent of Civil) and Dr. R Dixit (dean of GMC) had cut the ribbon and inaugurated the stall at OPD building of Civil hospital on 30/7/15. mass people present in OPD build, nursing students and doctors from various departments of medical college were present during this. Dr. V B Shah (HOD pediatrics), Dr. Darshan Chauhan (assistant professor pediatrics), Dr. Mahesh vadel, Dr. R Dixit and many others had given inaugural speech and told the importance of Breast feeding as well as ORS in dehydration, which may be the only effective measures to reduce child mortality by diarrhoea and many other disease.

The WallStreet was inaugurated by Dr R K Chavda. The magazine hopes to be expression of creativity among medicos.

2014-08-25 Welcome Ceremony to new Undergraduate Medical Students

The Government Medical College warmly welcome their incoming UG Batch of 1st year as well as their parents on 25th august,2014. The anatomy department and the students union carried out the proceeding of the event.

The audience was addressed by the DEAN (Dr. R. Dixit), additional Dean (Dr. R.K Chavda),Medical Superintendent (Dr. M.K. Vadel), Additional Superintendent (Dr. S.L Kantharia) and the senior faculty member of the college.Our esteemed guest for the event were Dr. Mahendra Chauhan (Medical Faculty Dean-VNSGU) and Dr. Dhiren Patel(President IMA ,Surat).

The student and parents were sensitized about the course of MBBS and the sensitive issue of RAGGING. The students were encouraged to work hard for academics and all round excellence. They were assured of zero tolerance for ragging.

From the year we introduced an inaugural brochure of the college designed by senior students. We also presented the top 3 merit students with a set of books as a token of appreciation.
The program ended with a feast of ice-cream for all the participants as the new academics year begin.
Anti Ragging Poster Competition was organized to allow students express their views on the issue.

2014-08-15 The Independence Day

The college celebrated the The Independence Day in colorful manners.
It started with Flag Hosting ceremony at 8.25 am.
This was followed by Tug-of-War and Musical-Chair. It was interesting to see the rope broken before any one from teachers vs. student wins.
Childrens were amused by their parents playing musical chair.
