GMCS and NCHS: 7th April, 2020, Tuesday.COVID-19 News Bulletin:In the COVID19 lockdown, the DMHP Surat staff of MO, Nurses, Health Workers, Counselors were Trained and Prepared for the upcoming challenges to work with Migrant population and give PsychoSocial support in all talukas who are in Relief camps or Shelter homes through online zoom meeting by Dr. Ritambhara Mehta, Professor & Head, Psychiatry. 100 participated including All Gujarat psychologists and psychiatrists.Many shared their expert experiences and questions were answered at the end.

GMCS and NCHS: 6th April, 2020, Monday. COVID-19 News Bulletin: After the inauguration of COVID-19 Hospital for 250 beds, the staff is getting Trained and Prepared for the upcoming challenges. Today's training sessions. 1. BioMedical Waste Management by Dr. Nimesh Verma, Nodal Officer COVID19 Hospital. 2. PsychoSocial Aspects of COVID19 for HealthCare Workers by Dr. Ritambhara Mehta, Professorc& Head, Psychiatry, GMCS.Many Nurses and other staff shared their patient experiences, own Anxieties and feelings of Triumph at the end. Overall, they had challenging but learning and positive experiences. Some glimpses.

After the inauguration of COVID-19 Hospital for 250 beds, the staff is also appointed. And they are being Trained and Prepared for the upcoming challenges by getting training in ‘Ventilatory Care’ by Anaesthesia Department. 2 batches of 30 have been trained so far. Some glimpses…

- Department of Psychiatry, Ms. Ami Pathak, Clinical Psychologist won the Best paper award in scientific session paper titled “Role of Clinical Psychologists in dealing with Juvenile Delinquency: Concept, Factors and Intervention Plan” in 46th National Annual Conference of Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists (46th NACIACP-2020) held on 21-23 February, 2020 at Chandigadh.

GMCS- Medical Education Unit under the Monitoring & mentor ship of MEU Coordinator Dr Arpita Nishal; successfully organised a 3 day Revised Basic workshop in Medical education Technologies from 4-6 March 2020 at Government medical college Surat, under guidance of MCI nodal centre, PS Medical College Karamsad. There were 30 participants comprising of Professors, Associate Professors , Assistant Professors and tutors .It was an effective workshop which adhered to all the requirements of MCI for a Revised Basic MET Workshop.

GMCS-Dr Chetan R Acharya, In-Charge Dept of Pharmacology, won Gold medal in chess in our College Sports Week, Zest 2020.

GMCS- Dept of Orthopaedics: A proud moment:- Assistant Professor Dr Vishal Mandlewala has completed:1. Fellowship in Arthoscopy and Sports Trauma at BG-Unfallklinik, Tubingen,Germany. 2. Fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Advanced Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty at Ospedale Cervesi,Cattolica,Italy.

Visit of our institute by Hon Commissioner, Health - Shri Jayprakash Shivhare sir.Sir took facility round of College & Hospital building along with Stem cell building & campus. He had interactive sessions with patients & their relatives, hospital staff, Residents & faculties. Interactive Meeting was held with Dean, MS, College department Heads, PIU officials & CoH.

GMCS-Proud moments:An International CME AIICME-2020 conducted by BJ medical college, Ahmedabad in collaboration with AIPNA and ICP from 31st January to 2nd February.Dr. Mandakini M. Patel, Prof. Pathology, GMCS-chaired a poster presentation session as a judge in the CME.7 Posters were presented from GMC Surat.Two residents from Pathology department secured awards for poster presentation.Dr. Komal Paghadhar- ‘Congenital Malaria’& Dr. Razvin Somani- ‘Solid Pseudopapillary Pancreatic Neoplasm’.

GMCS-NCHS:World Cancer Day- Awareness campaign organised in the presence of Padmashri Yezdi Karanjiya sir. Skit play was performed by Nursing students portraying the causes & consequences of cancer & preventive & precautionary measures for it. ====

On 3/2/2020 3 to 4.30 pm NCH, Surat organised an Update CME on nCoV outbreak for all residents, interns, nursing staff and faculties. The experts talked about the epidemiological aspects, symptoms, management and most importantly prevention. Demonstration on using personal protection equipments its discarding was very useful. EMO explained the current roles and responsibilities of the committee and all health personnel. He stressed on defining Exposed person, guidelines on Isolation and how and when to investigate. Preparedness and Prevention were stressed by the Medical Superintendent and Dean.

From 5 to 6 pm, Dean GMC SURAT and Medical Superintendent NCH SURAT interacted with all Resident doctors for their needs and constructive suggestions to improve quality of HealthCare services as well as making the work environment least stressful and enjoyable. All from clinical and paraclinical specialities expressed very specific suggestions and solutions at hospital, college and hostel levels. All residents will also fill up a google survey form so as to get inputs from all. The compiled report will be sent to higher authorities for necessary action along with local level actions.

GMCS-Visit of Dr. Yasmin Ali Haque- UNICEF India representative to GMCS-NCH Surat with Ms Laxmi Bhavani - Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Gujarat, Dr Narayan Gaonkar - Health Specialist and Dr Ravindra Bagal - Health Officer.UNICEF Country Head Dr Yasmin Ali Haque with team members visited OBGY Dept- Labor room, OB ICU, Ante & Postnatal wards. She also visited Paediatrics Dept- NICU, NRC etc. She interacted with patients, relatives & nursing staff & was delighted to get their spontaneous positive feedback regarding system.
