Introduction
Department of Psychiatry was established in 1982 running PG courses of MD Psychiatry and DPM. Now, every year there are 4 MDcandidates getting admitted to MCI recognized courses, whereas the DPM seat has been abolished The faculty are-
Dr. Ritambhara Y. Mehta, Professor and Head of Department, has developed the department gradually and persistently with her vision. She is a PG teacher for Psychiatry, guiding the postgraduate students. |
Dr. Kamlesh Dave, Associate Professor is a dynamic social psychiatrist, running help lines for board examinees students since many years. He is a PG teacher for Psychiatry, guiding the postgraduate students. |
Dr. Dimple Dadarwala, Assistant Professor is a young academician who has improved clinical and academic environment of department further. She has expertise in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. |
Dr. Pooja Shatadal, Assistant Professor has been part of the department since 2016. An alumnus of GMCS Psychiatry Department, she’s graced the department with her continuation as a faculty member since 2021. |
Ms. Amiben Pathak, Clinical Psychologist has more than 15 years of experience in field of Clinical Psychology. |
Dr. Kinjal Chauhan, Assistant Professor has recently joined the department since 2024. |
Apart from clinical outdoor and indoor psychiatric services it also provides De-addiction and Oral Substitution Therapy (DOST Center since 2011), aided by NACO, Drug Treatment Centre (DTC since 2017) for De-Addiction related services by NDDTC-AIIMS Project and GSACS giving de-addiction services. Department has a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit (CAP) facility since 2018. Department runs special groups for caregivers of mentally ill, mentally challenged, psychosexual disorders, alcohol use disorders and geriatric population. The department also undertakes DASH program from Distress and Suicide Prevention amongst PG students, fortnightly Psychiatry OPD services at CHC Zankhvav. It has acquired grant and permission to conduct Clinical Psychology (M.Phil.) courses, which will start once the GoG appoints the Clinical Psychology teaching staff.
Goals/Objectives
- To Start M. Phil. in Clinical Psychology with Manpower scheme B of NMHP in 11 th 5-year plan grant
- To enhance other training courses in Para-psychiatric fields of Psychiatric Social Work and Psychiatric Nursing
